FUTURE DIACONS OF OUR PARISH / FUTUROS DIACONOS DE NUESTRA PARROQUIA
I have been serving in the church as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and other ministries throughout the years since childhood. It has been a blessing and an honor, and it has brought me closer to God. I have felt God calling me to become a deacon on at least three different occasions, and one of them involved my wife, Angelica. After the third sign, I was driving home one day listening to Relevant Radio, and I heard, "When God calls, do not hesitate." We decided to respond to God's call through prayer and encouragement from loved ones. We attended a Discernment Day Retreat with other couples in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles who were also in the process. Angelica and I are currently in the Applicant stage, committed to prayer, reading, and discernment while undergoing a series of interviews. We have completed two of three and will have our mandatory retreat this summer before beginning our Aspirancy stage of formation in the Fall. We humbly ask for your prayers and support!
I came to IC in 1990, and upon our marriage Irene joined me in 1994. We have served in various ministries, including: Choir, Sacristan, Finance Council, Fiesta Finance Office, Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion, Restorative Justice, Communion to the Sick, Lector, and Bereavement. As we finish our first year of Aspirancy and continue on the journey to our second year, we ask for your continued prayers for the next four years of discernment that we may continue to follow God’s call to humbly serve Him and you, His people.
We invite our community to pray for these men and women who have begun their formation journey in the deaconate program of our Archdiocese.
Ruben & Lupita Quezada
My call to the diaconate is a long story, for now I can only share with you, that I felt God was preparing me for something, and I knew I was in love with the Lord and wanted to serve Him. During my walk with the Lord, I always asked, “what is your will and where do you want me, Lord?” Then, two people in the same day asked me about becoming a deacon. Even though I said ‘No,’ I shared it with my wife Lupita, and we began our research and discernment; upon learning that a deacon is a servant of the community, I decided with conviction to give my ‘yes’ to the Lord. We began our journey, first as an Inquirer. We have now completed our two years Aspirancy stage of formation and is heading into the fourth year as a Candidate beginning this Fall. We have grown so much with the formation, not only pastorally but in other areas of our lives, such as human and spiritual. With all humility and hope, we ask for your prayers that we will continue to discern and prepare accordingly, and with God’s grace ordination in 2026. God bless you!
